HOW TO - Prevent Chrome from searching for my URL

q: When the customer enters an intranet URL or simply a HOSTNAME in the search box in Chrome it always searches for the URL first.

a: That field in the Google Chrome browser is called the Omnibox.  It acts as the address bar, search bar for your bookmarks and search bar for your default search engine.  We have confirmed that adding a trailing slash / to the URL forces the browser to navigate directly to that URL.

Example: if you have server named PARTS that hosts a website on the default port 80, you can simply enter PARTS/ into the omnibox in chrome and be taken directly to the site.
