Configure GANZ DVR Remote Agent for Windows 7

q: When we open the GANZ DVR RemoteAgent application on Windows 7 64-bit the screen does not show the 2x2 grid like on Windows XP, it shows a blank screen.  How can we display the cameras.
a: We discovered the best settings for the application were:

  1. (X) Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
  2. (X) Disable visual themes
  3. (X) Disable desktop composition

Change your Pingdom.com account password

q: A customer came to us trying to change the password for their Pingdom.com account.  When you click Account, in the top toolbar, then settings, you are told (on the left) this is where you would "change your password".  However, there is no password field listed.

a: To actually changed your password, you have to:

  1. Click on Account, in the top toolbar, then Users.
  2. Select your user account by clicking the down arrow next to the name and select "Edit User"
  3. From this screen you can enter your current password, then your new password.
NOTE: Pingdom has FAQ and support pages but none of them seem to mention this.

Eye-Fi releases updated firmware

Yesterday, after 7 months, Eye-Fi released a firmware update for their X2 card.
http://support.eye.fi/cards/specs/firmware-release-notes/

v5.2006 (3 Sep 2013)
Fixes:

  • Resolves compatibility with some newer generation Nikon cameras
  • Resolves delayed media scan bug causing delay in sending photos in some cases
  • Rare private partition corruption bug resolved
  • Olympus OM-D E-M5 random card error issue resolved
  • Eye-Fi Connected stability and speed enhancements
  • General bug fixes and card performance optimizations
Some of our customers have reported issues with their cards over the last couple of months.  Upload times getting slower and slower and just not at all.  The fix: We updated the firmware on each card.  Then we noticed the antivirus was aggressively scanning the photo destination folder.  We created an exclusion for that folder in the AV product and photos began coming in within 4 seconds of taking them.
